Sooner or Later ...

So much for channeling the spirit of Kerri Walsh of yesterday's post, Kinesio-tape-wearer-extraordinaire ...

Within mere hours of being taped up, Grace proceeded to do the ... expected:

She tore it all off.

She proudly showed Grandma and Grandpa her taped foot and leg earlier in the afternoon. And when Daddy came home, she declared, "Oh, Daddy! You're home! Hug me! Now look at my boo-boo!"

She lifted her pant leg, flexed her foot ... and then began to pull.

There it was, most of it anyway, literally dangling by the proverbial thread from the small piece still securely fasted to the side of her leg. Don proceeded to reapply it, but then stopped after I yelled, "Noooooo! There's a certain way to do it!" Neither he nor I knew which muscles or areas to target -- that's not something I want to even guess at.

OK, said Don. If you can't fix it, then get rid of it. He then grabbed the dangling tape ... and ripped.

Grace screamed. He didn't know -- nor did he give me a chance to explain -- that you cannot simply rip it off like a band-aid. You have to pull ever-so-slowly, even doing so in the bath or using oil or some other kind of lubricant to slowly and gently ease it off the skin. Never, ever rip.

Poor kid. The remaining tape was stuck fast. I took some scissors, but Grace screamed some more as I approached her: "No! Don't cut me! Don't cut off my leg!" Where does she come up with this stuf ...

Now the dangling tape is gone, and what's left is just that small strip still adhered to her leg. I guess it can't hurt to leave it there -- a least that very, very small section of muscle will be helped. Maybe.

Ugh. Guess we lost Round One on this one.

Grace sounds a lot like my daughter.. I've heard similar strange comments, like "dont cut off my head" when removing gum from her hair. :-)
